Top 7 Mushroom-Related Gifts

If you are shopping for a mushroom-lover a great gift will depend on what the person you are shopping for already has. If they're just getting started, they might need a mushroom field guide or a mushroom knife, however if they are a seasoned forager, you might want to scroll a little further down on the list to some of the more uniquie items they either don't have or haven't tried using yet.

So check out below! If you feel there was a great gift idea we missed, feel free to e-mail it to us at MushroomBlog.com@gmail.com

1. Opinel No.8 Mushroom Folding Knife

While not necessary to start mushroom hunting, if you plan on picking mushrooms, a good mushroom knife can be a great tool to ensure you make a clean cut when harvesting mushrooms and not damage the mycelium beneath the surface. Its probably no surprise that Opinel took the #1 spot on our Top 5 Mushroom Knifes article. The No.08 Mushroom knife is heralded by many mushroom foragers as THE mushroom knife to have! It features a curved blade to help cut delicate mushrooms, and a boars hair brush on the end to help wipe away any dust or debris. The Opinel company has made knives since 1890 from its headquarters in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, Savoie, France.

My brother has had this knife for a few years now and it has served us well, still as sharp as the day we got it!

2. National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms

A good mushroom identification book (or two.. or three..) is key if you want to search for and identify mushrooms correctly. A LOT of mushrooms look really similar to each other so you need to be really careful when identifying them. This book is definitly a good one to have in your collection with over 700 mushrooms detailed with color photographs and descriptive text. If you ever plan to search for mushrooms outside of the PNW this guide will serve you well. However, this book is probably most useful in conjunction with a second book specific to your state/area. This book is a bit thick so I don't know if I would personally call it 'pocket-sized' but it is still fairly compact at 4.2" x 7.7" and 1.4" thick.

3. Gift Republic Mushroom Enamel Mug

I have no idea why, but there seems to be a strong connection between coffee-lovers and mushroom hunters. This gifts combines the two! This unique gift is most likely something the person you are shopping for doesn't already have and has a fairly low price point. Who doesn't need more mugs?!

4. Mushroom Ground Coffee by Four Sigmatic

Continuing with the mushroom/coffee theme, have you ever tried combining the two, LITERALLY?!?! Four Sigmatic launched in the US in 2015 and have continued to expand their product line since. This product combines Organic Fairtrade Coffee with Organic Chaga and Organic Lion's Mane mushroom to provide a healthy way to kickstart your day with superfoods! This product is Organic, Fair-Trade Certified, Vegan and contains 0 grams of sugar.

I can attest that although it may sound a little odd at first, this product has no weird mushroomy taste, just 100% coffee flavor and mushroom-goodness.

5. Back To The Roots Organic Mushroom Growing Kit

THIS THING IS SO COOL!! My brother bought me this kit a couple years ago for christmas and to be honest I didn't even think it would work. But after following the directions we had mushrooms a couple weeks later! I've gotten better over the years but at the time I did not have a green thumb and yet I found it so easy to care for these mushrooms. This is a great gift especially if you're shopping for someone who can't get out and forage as much as they would like to.

6. Think Out Loud Apparel Funguy Funny Mushroom Tee

Another unique gift, if the person you are shopping is someone with a good sense of humor this might be a good one for them. This shirt comes in 6 colors and sizes from Small to 3XL. This shirt is not only funny but a great conversation starter and can help your friend/family member find more mushroom enthusiasts.

7. TruffleHunter Truffle Oil Selection Gift Set

Oh now we're getting fancy! In case you don't know, truffles are the GOLD of the mushroom world. In fact, European white truffles can sell for as much as $3,600 a pound. That's some expensive fungi! Truffle oil has a really unique, deep flavor, it can be included in most italian dishes or even just drizzled over freshly-baked bread. While these oils are actually truffle blends, the number one ingredient in each bottle is still truffle oil. C'mon, did you really think this fancy fungi would be selling under $40? I think this product is a great gift to get someone interested in cooking with truffles while not breaking the bank.
